Crisis proof toy industry

In Belgium, we seem to be doing quite well when it comes to spoiling our children;
even in times of crisis the toy industry remains a thriving business, with sales rising up to 92,14 million Euros in the first six months of 2009, compared to 86,35 million in the same period last year. The reason for this success may be that toys are not considered being necessaries of life, although other people claim different reasons. According to Camille Foutz, Senior Business Analyst at Entertainment Department France-Benelux of the NPD Group, people cut back on food and cars, but keep buying Lego and Barbie for their children, because in times of crisis people prefer securities, and toys are considered stable goods.
So don’t be afraid not being able to buy Christmas presents for your children, the market will remain positive.
